Dear Learner

December has two parts for us: lots of running around buying presents, preparing lots of food and decorating the house. And then lots of resting and enjoying putting our feet up!

Now we are still busy and we have just put up another one of our pie videos. This week we talk about the Nativity scene. Who was there with baby Jesus, Mary and Joseph? This is a level 1 podcast and video.

We have updated the Podcasts of the Month. These include Winter blues for level 1. We explain why we are not looking forward to the long winter season ahead! For level 2 we have Whose turn is it? Join us for some fun family games. And for level 3 we say Look before you eat and sympathise with those who have food allergies. There are more! Find them in the sidebar on the levels pages.

And of course we have highlighted all our Christmas videos and podcasts, there are loads so do pop over to the sidebar and have a look. For example, there is Figgy pudding for level 1, we talk about Christmas meals around the world. O Christmas tree for level 2 explains why we have a decorated tree in the house, and Unwanted gifts has some great advice for buying presents for women (level 3)!

Talking about great advice: did you see our last podcast? Buyer beware gives some excellent top tips for buying things over the Internet, online shopping can be a nightmare! This is for level 2.

Remember that while most podcasts are free, podcasts 1 - 99 are for members only. Each podcast has essential transcripts, worksheets and extra materials for teachers and learners and with over 2000 to choose from, so Join pie now!

If you are not already a member, one lucky winner in our monthly competition gets free pie membership! Reza from Iran was the lucky winner of last month's competition. He correctly said that the answer was a) 272 stations.

For this month's quiz just answer this question: How many people live in Edinburgh? Is it a) 800,000, b) 50,000 or c) 500,000? The answer is in this beginner's level video: Scotland the brave.

Write your answer on our Contact us page. Remember to tell us your name and where you are from. Good luck! Answers by the end of the month.

Best wishes
