Dear Teacher
We're not sure what's happening this October. It should be autumn: orange leaves, misty mornings and bonfires. And yet the weather has been like summer, 30 degrees for us tomorrow!
However, our Podcasts for October have an autumn theme. We have a level 1 podcast about The Fall, listen and find out what we like about the cold but colourful season. For level 2 we talk about collecting Mushrooms and how we take care when picking our favourite free food. And for level 3 we take a slow ride on the canals in Waterways, perfect for late autumn days.
October has loads of special days! Far too many to mention here but check out the sidebar for the levels to see them. They include a number of our pie videos, for example 1.58 Lisbon is yellow and, 3.127 The streets of Kolkata (UN World Cities day is 31 October). We also have podcasts for World Sight Day on 13th, World Food Day on 16th and World Singing Day on 19th. And of course 1.137 Spooky nights for Hallowe'en on 31st.
Autumn is also a good time to get back into the cinema and enjoy a good film. Have you see Jurassic Park? Did you listen to our new level 2 podcast Dinosaurs? We talk about the prehistoric creatures that once ruled the Earth. There is also a reading about Mary Anning, one of the very first fossil hunters.
For our latest level 1 podcast we turn to one our favourite topics: food! But not just food, food and drink. Do you think Beer 'n' pizza is the best combination, or do you prefer something different? What does Jackie like with a cup of tea? And what does Richard say is perfect with a cup of coffee? Listen and find out!

If you are not already a member, one lucky winner in our monthly competition gets free pie membership! Monika, from Poland, was the lucky winner of last month's competition. She correctly said the answer was c) toast and jam. For this month just answer this question:
It's about British postboxes: What is Richard's first question? Is it a) why are they so popular?, b) why are they red?, or c) why are they round? The answer is in this level 2 podcast / video: The postbox.
Write your answer on our Contact us page. Remember to tell us your name and where you are from. Good luck! Answers by the end of the month.
Best wishes
Richard and Jackie
