Dear Learner

Although it's September, it still feels like summer. This is because it's still very hot where we are. Also we are watching some summer sporting events which usually have finished by now. In particular, we are enjoying the Tour de France. Listen to The yellow jersey and find out what all the different coloured jerseys mean.

Usually our podcasts of the month for September have some kind of holiday theme: where we went and what we did. However, most people probably stayed at home this year. Therefore we think Tutor YouTube might be useful to listen to; we ask if it's a good learning tool for those at home. This is for level 3.

A recent level 2 podcast Hobbies at home, may also still be of interest right now. Also this podcast where Scott explains how he deals with life when it gets tough: Stressed out? And if you did stay at home it would be nice to talk about Local beauty spots. We talk about 3 nice places near us, now you can do the same! This is for level 1.

Meanwhile we start the month with another podcast for our British icons theme. This time we talk about monuments: buildings or sites which have some importance to our culture. These are A wall, a bridge and a tower. Can you guess which ones these might be? Listen to our level 3 podcast and find out. And do write and tell us about a special monument near you, we love hearing from our listeners!

Note that while most podcasts are free, podcasts 1 - 75 are for members only. Why not make 2020 your year to learn English and join pie!

There are not only podcasts and worksheets but we also have loads of extra materials for learners including top listening tips to help you with real conversations and helping you recognise the key features of spoken English. And there's more! All on the Pie plus page.

Also, why not enter our monthly competition? It's open to teachers and learners and the winner gets 3 months free pie membership! Just answer this question:

How does Jackie describe the Formula 1 Grand Prix? Is it a) the world's most dangerous sport, b) the world's most expensive sport, or c) the world's fastest sport? The answer is in this level 2 podcast: The Grand Prix.

Write your answer on our Contact us page. Remember to tell us your name and where you are from. Good luck! Answers by the end of the month.

All the very best.
